Important Tips and Resources for Water Safety

Glendale, AZ - NewsThe Glendale Fire Department offers these safety tips to keep everyone safe around water:

Pool Safety

  • Never leave children alone around water.
  • Adults should not swim alone.
  • Fence your pool and latch your gate.

  • Secure doors, gates and pet doors that are leading to the pool area.
  • Remove items that can be used to climb a pool fence such as chairs, tables and ladders.
  • Empty inflatable pools when not in use, and store pool toys away from the pool.  
  • Know where your child is at all times.
  • Teach children how to swim. Click here for information on swimming lessons from Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Around the House Water Safety

  • Avoid standing water. A child can drown in 1 to 2 inches of water!
  • Never leave a child alone in the bathtub.
  • Empty all buckets and pails.
  • Close toilet lids.

CPR and CCC Education Opportunities

CPR: Traditional, mouth-to-mouth ventilation is recommended for drowning incidents, according to the American Heart Association. Arizona Red Cross and American Heart Association offer CPR certification.
