Achen-Gardner Engineering is installing a waterline under Olive Avenue to service Glendale’s water distribution system and treatment plant. This waterline is an integral part of the new groundwater plant project, which will enhance the overall resources and capability of Glendale’s water operations. Crews are currently scheduled to work daytime hours while installing the waterline. Please be aware of the following:
- Crews are currently installing waterline in Olive Avenue, from 67th Avenue to 63rd Avenue, moving in an easterly direction. As the construction activity moves along, the area will be trenched, waterline installed, the trench backfilled, and the area prepared for paving. Traffic restrictions will be in place during this construction, but paving is scheduled to take place on a weekly basis to minimize traffic restrictions.
- Waterline installation is scheduled to be completed by June 2nd.
- Immediately following the waterline installation, Olive Avenue, from 67th Avenue to 63rd Avenue, is scheduled for asphalt mill and overlay, which generally takes approximately 2-3 weeks with daytime restrictions. Initially, there will be minor traffic restrictions while the contractor prepares the road for asphalt removal.
- Next, the contractor will remove one or more layers of the existing asphalt. The contractor will then apply a layer of asphalt, then the rubberized asphalt onto the road surface. This step requires restrictions for a short time and officers will be on-site to assist in the movement or temporary stopping of traffic.
- It may be necessary to adjust traffic control to accommodate work and traffic conditions. Business access will be maintained; however, there may be brief times during the application of the rubberized asphalt when driveways are not accessible.
CONSTRUCTION INFO for 63rd Avenue, between Alice and Olive avenues
Tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, May 17th, for approximately one week, contractor crews will be working on the south side of Olive Avenue at 63rd Avenue. This construction activity will restrict 63rd Avenue between Golden Lane and Olive Avenue. Olive Avenue will continue to have east and westbound traffic; however, Olive Avenue traffic will not be permitted to turn southbound onto 63rd Avenue, and 63rd Avenue traffic (south of Olive Avenue) will not have access to Olive Avenue. 63rd Avenue will be accessible from Alice Avenue to Golden Lane for local traffic only.
