Story Ideas
  • Home of National Football Championships – Glendale is home to two NCAA football classics the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and the Bowl Championship Series, which rotates between major bowl cities and is played in Glendale every four years.

  • Shopping and Dining in Historic Downtown Glendale - Located on the Western edge of Phoenix, Glendale is a national sports and entertainment mecca, with a new NHL Arena and NFL stadium. But, our most defining asset is our Historic Downtown - 10 square blocks of tree-lined streets, ethnic eateries and bungalow boutiques. Consistently ranked one of the top shopping districts in the country, Historic Downtown merchants offer a variety of stores with items that quickly take shoppers down memory lane.  In addition to the antique items, savvy shoppers also find a medley of imports, jewelry, art, crafts, collectables, and bath and body accessories.

  • Culture and Heritage Scene - Culture and heritage seekers find solace in Glendale. Glendale is rich in southwestern history and has worked diligently to preserve its heritage. Home to five districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Glendale also boasts many specific historic properties, including: Glendale’s Beet Sugar Factory, First National Bank of Glendale Building, Glendale Woman's Club Clubhouse, Sahuaro Ranch, Catlin Court Historic District and Manistee Ranch. These structures provide residents and visitors alike a first-hand look at Glendale’s oldest and finest relics from the past. Preserving one of the Valley’s oldest and most magnificent homesteads, Historic Sahuaro Ranch consists of 13 original buildings and a breathtaking rose garden. A weekend wedding is a common sight, and the park’s stately peacocks are popular guests in the receiving line.

  • The Bead Museum - Founded in 1984 by Gabrielle Liese, this unique museum houses an international collection of over 100,000 beads and beaded artifacts. Spend a day exploring displays, which weave a fascinating story of the global history of beads. The museum features permanent and changing exhibitions, and education and outreach programs of lectures, tours and classes for the visitor. The museum store sells a wide range of publications on beads and related subjects, as well as beads and supplies for the bead worker and specialist beads for the collector.

  • Westgate City Center – The city of Glendale partnered with The Ellman Companies to construct the state-of-the-art Jobing.com Arena that opened in December 2003. This partnership is unique in that it was more than the construction of the arena but also the development of a retail project, Westgate City Center. The revenues generated by Westgate will pay for the city’s $180 million cost to construct the Arena. The Westgate property features a multiplex theatre, retail, restaurants, corporate offices, apartments and condominiums.

  • Catering to the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Ever since the city’s first sports facility was completed in 2003, the Glendale Municipal Airport – located just two miles from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. -- has been the preferred site for sports owners, the “Hollywood jet set” and others for their corporate and personal aircraft. From Cindy Crawford and Elton John to Michael Jordan, you never know who you might run into at the airport during event days.

  • Satisfy your Sweet Tooth at Cerreta Candy Company – Willy Wonka may be the most well known chocolate factory owner in the world but Glendale boasts its own confection-maker…Cerreta’s Candy Company. For more than 70 years, the Cerreta family has prepared their candy the old fashioned way—by hand. Only the finest chocolates, nuts and ingredients are used to produce candy made famous around the world. Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Glendale, the Cerreta family offers free factory tours where sampling is encouraged! We dare you to come watch for yourself as chocolate magic is performed right before your eyes.

  • Media Center - This high-tech center is ready host to numerous media looking to get a bird’s eye view of game day activities. Home to the city’s cable station, Glendale 11, this facility gives new meaning to government television. The station provides Glendale residents critical information on the latest happenings in Glendale and beyond.

  • Glendale Neighborhoods – Diverse, dynamic and distinctive, Glendale neighborhoods are the heart of this city. From the older neighborhoods in the “Heart of Glendale” to the newer subdivisions in the west and north part of town, Glendale really is a big city with the heart of a small town. Visit neighborhoods where people from all backgrounds and walks of life call this southwestern city home and tree-lined streets and desert landscaping mix just as well as the diverse population it houses. In Glendale, everyone has a place, from residential areas that house small, working families to urban living in Historic Downtown Glendale to the more contemporary Arrowhead Ranch.

  • Glendale is a leader in the preservation of military bases. In fact, the state legislation that Glendale has crafted over the last couple years to preserve the mission of military bases in Arizona, including Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, is now being used as a national model in other communities.

  • Thunderbird School on International Management – see how students from around the world come to Glendale to become leaders.

  • Thunderbird Park, an 1,185-acre park in the Hedgpeth Hills, is a conservation park dedicated to preserving the desert environment. Park activities include picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, jogging and bird watching. You’ll find many Sonoran Desert inhabitants in the park.

  • Sports Bar for the Serious Sports Fan - For sheer throwback sports-bar atmosphere, no place beats Max's, which has been a game-day home away from home for a quarter of a century. It's got tons of memorabilia, including the helmets of just about every football team on the planet.
