| National Take Back Initiative Day
- Sept. 25, 2010
The Glendale Police Department is coordinating a one-day collaborative effort with the Drug Enforcement Administration to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from our nation’s homes.
When and Where:
The “National Take Back Initiative Day” will be on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Target parking lot at 10404 N. 43rd Ave. (Peoria & 43rd). This is the opportunity for residents to safely and conveniently surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications. Glendale’s collection site will be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Why?
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), there are more Americans abusing prescription drugs than the number of cocaine, heroin and hallucinogen abusers combined. These expired, unused and unwanted substances in our homes can fuel this abuse and pose a risk to public health and safety. We request your support and hope you will join us in this effort to “Take Back.”
What We'll Take
Clean out your medicine cabinets! Controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances may be collected. No questions or requests for identification will be made. You can remain anonymous. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container. If an original container is submitted, we ask that you remove and shred any identifying information from the label. All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers will be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain in their original container. Intra-venous solutions, injectibles and syringes will not be accepted.
