FRONT DESK

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
2-8 pm, Monday - Friday
11 am-5 pm, Saturdays & Sundays
Volunteer needed to assist at the front desk to provide a warm welcome to participants entering the center; conduct tours; assist Pass Holders by answering/making phone calls, responding to questions, assisting with registration paperwork; opening and sorting incoming mail; verifying Pass Holder entry into the facility; and other duties as assigned by the Office Supervisor.

OFFICE SUPPORT

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
8am-6pm, Monday thru Friday
Volunteers needed to assist with sorting, copying, mailings, distribution of materials throughout the facility; typing, organizing and maintaining attractive bulletin boards; tidiness and cleanliness of lobby area; and other duties as assigned.

CHILD CARE

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
8-11:30 am, Monday - Friday
4-7 pm, Monday - Thursday
4-6 pm, Fridays
7:45-11:30 am, Saturdays

Volunteers needed to assist staff in the Turtle Club child care room with child care duties; read to children; set up and supervise arts ‘n crafts and educational activities; check-in/check-out participants; provide consistent, progressive discipline techniques for the control of the area; cleaning and organization of equipment; and other duties as assigned by the Turtle Club staff. Must be a minimum of 14 years of age.

GYM MONITOR

Volunteers wanted in the gymnasium during peek hours of use to uphold policies and procedures, assist with activities and ensure appropriate use of the area.

ACTIVITY ROOM

Volunteers needed to assist with the check out and monitoring of equipment, maintaining an age-appropriate use of the area, assist with special event activities and cleanliness.

FITNESS CENTER

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
5:30 am-10 pm, Monday - Friday
7 am-8 pm, Saturdays
11 am-5 pm, Sundays

Volunteers wanted to provide a welcoming atmosphere for Pass Holders, maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, monitor the use of the Walking/Jogging Track and monitor the safe use of all equipment.

AQUATICS AREA

12-4 pm, Saturdays & Sundays

Volunteers needed at the entrance to the Aquatics Center to count users, hand out wrist bands, check Family Changing Rooms and assist with crowd control during emergencies. Volunteer must be a minimum of 13 years of age. Seasonal opportunity.

FOOTHILLS 360

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
7 am-6 pm, Monday - Friday,
in the Summer

Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age and will assist with the supervision and programming of youth between the ages of 5-11 years of age. Duties may include monitoring program participants during swimming, short hikes to Foothills Park, organizing arts and crafts activities, assisting with gym games and quiet games. This is a Summer Program Only.

HISTORY GUIDE
(Interpreter/ Demonstrator)


Must complete a training program and observe tours or demonstrations. Must commit to at least 10 hours of work after training. Time schedule is flexible relative to tours scheduled and programs currently running.

Lead tours of the Sahuaro Ranch Park Historical Area. Provide demonstrations of activities associated with ranch. Help write programs, develop tours, participate in special programs and staff historical areas.

Requirements:
• 16 years of age (depending on maturity) and up
• Ability to work with the public
• Desire to develop or enhance public speaking skills
• Interest in history and presenting accurate information

Especially Desired: Volunteers with agricultural experience, blacksmithing skills or the ability to speak Spanish.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Hours and schedule
are flexible.

Working with other volunteers, assist with general maintenance of Sahuaro Ranch park grounds under supervision of staff. Tasks include general clean up, raking leaves, cleaning porches, harvesting fruit, watering plants, moving of light equipment and working on small maintenance or site improvement projects as needed.

Requirements
• 16 years of age and up
• Ability to work in dusty and hot outdoor conditions
• Ability to follow procedures and detailed instructions
• Landscaping or maintenance experience desired, but not required

Appropriate clothing and footwear required.

GREETER/GALLERY MONITOR

Hours and schedule
are flexible.

Provide staffing of park galleries, exhibit areas, or historic houses during public hours. Greet public, provide information about park activities, and count visitors. Observe galleries or exhibit areas to help preserve exhibits, displays, and buildings.

Requirements:
• 16 years of age (depending on maturity) and up
• Ability to work two- to four- hour shifts, sometimes independently
• Ability to work with the public
• Ability to follow procedures to observe galleries and to count visitors

Greeters/Gallery Monitors are needed to volunteer for regular schedules or at special events.

ANIMAL CARE ASSISTANT

Hours and schedule
are flexible (weekdays
or weekends)

Assist with bird (chicken, peafowl, and guinea fowl) feeding and monitoring program. Provide food and water at designated feeding stations. Monitor station condition, track feeding supplies, and assist with cleaning. Observe and report conditions of animals (birds, cats, rabbits, etc) throughout park. Assist with animal care and special projects (such as population counting) as needed.

Requirements:
• 18 years of age and up
• Ability to work in dusty and hot outdoor conditions
• Ability to work around chickens and other animals
• Ability to follow procedures and detailed instructions

SPECIAL EVENTS ASSISTANT

Position availability and hours are subject to special events schedule

Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of special events at Sahuaro Ranch. Tasks include equipment and activity research, materials and craft preparation, event set-up, event activity staffing, event take-down and clean-up, and event summary and evaluation. Volunteers may also work on special related projects as needed.

RequirementsL:
• 16 years of age and up
• Ability to follow procedures and detailed instructions
• Planning and organization skills desired, but not required

MUSEUM CATALOGER/ ASSISTANT

Must be available to work a minimum of 2 hours per month. A set schedule is preferred.

Catalogers/Assistants handle new and existing artifacts to accurately measure and describe them in order to document their identity and information such as use, previous ownership, etc. Assist with other collections management tasks such as cleaning, moving, storing artifacts.

Requirements:
• 16 years of age (depending on maturity) and up
• An interest in history, antiques, and artifacts
• Ability to follow a step-by-step procedure to accomplish neat, accurate work
• Able to work independently in a “behind the scenes” environment

Volunteers are trained in museum cataloguing and artifact handling methods. A good opportunity for those who would like to learn about museum operations. Also
applicable to those with library cataloging experience.

HISTORIC HOUSEKEEPING ASSISTANT

Must be available to work a minimum of 2 hours per month. A set schedule is preferred.

Historic housekeeping assistants work with staff to clean historic structures and artifacts on a regular basis using appropriate methods. Specialized tasks include cleaning furniture, linens or textiles, floorboards and handrails, windows, and artifacts or demonstration objects. Assistants help maintain the general appearance of historic interiors or exhibits.

Requirements:
• 16 years of age (depending on maturity) and up
• An interest in history, antiques, artifacts, or historic buildings
• Ability to follow specialized cleaning instructions
• Able to work independently in a “behind the scenes” environment

Volunteers are trained in historic house cleaning and artifact handling methods.

Sponsorships and Donations Needed for Special Events
Every year Glendale’s annual Fall Festival and Spring Extravaganza events historically draw more than 4,000 attendees each.  To keep the event free to the public, we are soliciting and accepting candy and prize donations for the many games and contest for children.  In addition to the opportunity for product donations, we are also recruiting corporate and/or title sponsorships. Adopt-A-Trail Program
Have you heard about Glendale’s Adopt-a-Trail program? You can become actively involved in conserving and maintaining the tremendous natural wealth and beauty of nearly 50 miles of multi-use trails in the city. Volunteers are needed to help improve and maintain the trails. Individuals or groups will receive training on the proper techniques. Adopters will be asked to keep the trail maintained and litter-free at least twice a year. If your organization is interested, please call 623-930-2042.
