FIREFIGHTER TRAINEE
SALARY: $38,215 - $56,461 annually
Minimum Qualifications for Glendale Firefighter Trainee:
Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a GED by application closing date. Must have passed a Candidates Physical Ability Test (CPAT) from a Glendale-recognized organization in the past six months, to be hired. Must have a valid Arizona Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification, reside in Arizona and possess a valid Arizona driver’s license by date of employment. Employment Standards
For Firefighter Trainee minimun requirements
- Minimum Age of 18 years
by application end date.
- Arizona residency at the time of appointment of hire
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
by application end date.
- Arizona Emergency Medical Technician certification at time of hire
- Must successfully pass the conditional hiring process, which includes a background check, drug testing and a medical physical administered by a fire department physician.
- Must successfully complete 12-week firefighter training academy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a commitment to serve others

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
Glendale Fire Department requires that all firefighter recruits have passed a Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT)
within 6 months of hire date. Currently Glendale Fire Department does not host a CPAT. Interested applicants are encouraged to enroll in a local CPAT process.
If you have never taken a CPAT, need to renew because your last CPAT was longer than 6 months ago or need to retake a CPAT due to failure: Glendale Fire Department encourages applicants to sign-up for GCC’s CPAT or through the National Testing Network.

The National Testing Network also offers CPAT testing on a weekly basis. You can register on-line at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com
OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANTS: Glendale Fire Department only recognizes CPAT’s from agencies in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. This would include area fire departments, National Testing Network, or through the Maricopa County Community College District.
